Are Cod-liver Oil Tablets Advisable When Diagnosed With Acute Hepatitis B Infection?
Can I intake Cod-liver oil tablets?
Suggestive of Acute hepatitis B virus infection.
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX Hi & Welcome.
Thanks for posting your query on health care magic.
Based on the history and the lab results given, you seem to be suffering from Acute hepatitis B virus infection.
Unless severe, there's no role of oral anti-HBV drugs at this stage.
You should get plenty of bed rest, drink plenty of fluids, and eat healthy foods.
Recovery usually occurs within 6 months.
At this stage, I usually prescribe Tab Silymarin twice daily which acts as liver protectant and helps in recovery.
Besides the instructions given by your treating physician you need to avoid
1. fatty meals, non-vegetarian foods, etc.
2. Take a healthy balanced diet including fresh fruits and vegetables.
3. Take plenty of oral fluids.
According to a scientific study the levels of Vitamin D are inversely proportional to Hepatitis B virus, but there is no clinical significance for this.
I advise you to consult your physician after 6 months for further evaluation like certain lab tests including liver function tests, anti-HBS, HBeAg, IgM to HBcAg, etc.
The absence of IgM anti-HBc or the persistence of HBsAg for 6 months along with the presence of HBeAg, reactive HBV DNA & Total Anti-HBc indicates chronic HBV infection which needs to be treated with specific anti viral drugs.
Hope the suggestions given above would be beneficial. However, should you need to have some clarifications, please feel free to send the follow up query.
Best wishes.
