Question : Hi, this question is for a relative of mine who was recently admitted to the hospital and diagnosed with Acute Coronary Syndrome. He also has a recent history of stroke. He was prescribed Warfarin, Aspirin, and Plavix - medical report with dosage and duration is attached for your reference. My questions:
1) Is the combination and dosage ok in your opinion?
2) what is the risk of internal bleeding with all three together?
3) what precautions need to be taken?

Proven combination in given clinical scenario

Detailed Answer:
In situation like this it appropriate prescription. Yes, it does carry some risk. We always have to work on risk benefit ratio. This combination does achieve better benefit than risk in the given scenario. Risk of internal bleeding various from person to person but on an average its about six percent.

Major precaution are dietary and avoidance drugs known to interact with warfarin.
