Are Abdominal And Pelvic Pain Symptoms Of UTI?
Question: I'm 19 and I didn't have any of the common symptoms of a UTI (no pain urinating or frequently needing to urinate) so it really didn't cross my mind, but I went to the doctor with abdominal aches and pelvic pain which had been going on for a good month, he examined my abdomen and said it all felt normal and he took a urine sample and said there was some infection in it. He gave me antibiotics (Trimethoprim) which I have started today, but basically since I got back from the doctor this afternoon I have have aches in my upper leg and I was not sure if this is just due to the UTI? The pain came before I first took the antibiotic, it comes and goes.Thanks.
Brief Answer:
Could be calculi
Detailed Answer:
Hi
I am Dr Mittal. I have read your query. I think I would be able to help you.
The symptoms of the query are quite suggestive of a renal calculi actually. I agree with the doctor about possible uti if there was no associated thigh pain. But with that additional symptom, I would think of renal calculi.
I suggest testing a ultrasound of the abdominal area with pelvis. An scan may be a better but more expensive option.
I have tried to make it as simple as possible. I hope that the information helps you. Please feel free to contact us for more information. Best of luck. Dr Mittal.
