Are Pistachios To Be Avoided While On Warfarin?

default
Posted on Thu, 12 Jan 2017
Question: Will pistachio nuts impact my warfarin level? It recently dropped significantly, from 3.1 (too high) to 1.6 (too low) within a one day period. I test at home once a week, but will be testing daily until I'm back on track. A pistachio muffin is the only "out of the ordinary" food/drink that's coming to mind yesterday or today, so I'm wondering if that's the cause. If not, could high stress cause a drop in INR like that?

Brief Answer:
No!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Pistachio nuts have not been known to interfere with warfarin level. I will suggest you continue monitoring and record the diets as well to allow for eventual evaluation and adjustment if need be. Likewise, stress is not known to affect the INR levels.

I hope to hear back from you. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
