Are Tremors And Blurred Vision Suggestive Of Trigeminal Neuralgia?

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Jun 2016
Question: Hello, I am 41 years old and at 13 I was diagnosed with Epilepsy. Two years later an ear infection that had laid dormant for 5 years, it ate thru my hearing bones leaving me deaf in that ear and it has done damage to my cranial nerves. Until recently I just dealt with the pain pressure etc. I was in XXXXXXX for 10 days VEEG monitoring to determine I do not have epilepsy. I BELIEVE IT IS TRIGEMINAL NEURALGIA . Doctors don'the connect the two that the infection did its damage causing tremors not seizures, what are your thoughts?

I have had tremor episodes along with the stabbing pain on the left side of my face, NY vision is blurred constantly, a vibrational feeling on the left side. My MRI shows there is a cerebellar artery overriding the 7th cranial nerve. Left tympanic membranehas scarring and is mild thickening.

Brief Answer:
Possibility of trigeminal neuralgia, take medications as advised

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Trigeminal neuralgia presents with severe episodic, lancinating electric pain over face which can occur multiple times in a day or may be continous in some cases.
There is usually no visible facial muscle twitching or movement.
In view of imaging, Trigeminal neuralgia is more likely a possibility if there is no facial muscle movement or eye ball movements. Moreover trigeminal neuralgia may be associated with trigger factors like cold, facial touch, air or washing face and eating. These factors could precipitate trigeminal neuralgia episodes.

Partial seizure may involve only face or limbs. And EEG can prove the diagnosis if it detects any abnormal activities. However it may not be positive in all cases.

If your doctors are unable to make a clear diagnosis, then I will suggest you be treated with carbamazepine in increasing dosage as it is effective in both seizure and trigeminal neuralgia.
Surgical procedures are available in non responsive cases.

Hope this answers your question. Do get back to me for further queries.
