Can Aspirin Be Taken For DVT And PE?

Question: I had two small pulmobary embolisms in XXXXXXX unprovoked. I am morbidly obese and have a desk job so i sit a lot. My doctor thinks they likely came from my legs. I was on coumadin for six months and am now taking aspirin 325 daily. How effective is aspirin at preventing dvt and pe? Im so scared of having more blood clots.
Brief Answer:
Aspirin effective but mere medicines not enough.Lifestyle modification need
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
Aspirin is effective in preventing DVT and PE but the underlying cause needs to be managed. Your morbid obesity is a very important risk factor which you need to take in account. Unless you attempt to take care of it, mere medication is unlikely to be helpful. You need adequate mobilization alongside. Even while sitting on the desk, you can alternately contract the calf muscles of both legs and that will also help.

Thank you. I've heard that aspirin is not effective in preventing clots in the veins.
Brief Answer:
Aspirin is effective
Detailed Answer:
You have heard only a part of the story. Aspirin is effective in preventing clots in veins and that is the reason it is used so often in heart disease as well as to prevent stroke. However, low molecular heparins are more effective but are not used routinely.
