What Is The Life Expectancy With Gangrene,renal Failure And Diabetes?

my mother-in-law has wet gangrene covering her entire right heel and ulcers on her left heel turning bad also, morbid obesity ( over 300 pounds), renal failure, cellitus, diabetes, congestive heart failure. she would not survive dual amputation under surgery or under local anesthesia (according to the docs), they are wanting to call in hospice. What is her life expentantcy as it stands now?

Dear Sir/Madam,
Welcome to HCM.
I would not give you false hopes. In the presence of congestive cardiac failure and renal problems generally anesthetists prefer to give regional anesthesia. Local anesthesia would not be enough for a surgery like amputation. Her chances will mainly depend on her level of infection, type of bacteria causing the infection (Resistant ones like MRSA, ESBL and MDR strains are difficult to treat and do not respond to medications well) , her renal function (as many drugs are excreted by kidneys) and of course her current sugar levels. I can say that 100% recovery is bit doubtful but it all rests on the experience of the surgeon, Anesthetist and your mother in law's response to treatment. Having said so much it is my duty to say that you need to opt for treatment as allowing her cellulitis to kill her slowly would be very painful.
