Can BP And Thyroid Medication Be Taken Together?
Question: I have been on blood pressure medication for years & I AM ALSO ON ARMOR THYROID MEDICATION. I HAD A THYROID TEST DONE THREE MONTHS AGO & AM TAKING MY MEDICATION AS PRESCRIBED. I AM ALSO TAKING A 25MG TABLET OF METOPROLOL WHICH WAS PRECRIBED YEARS AGO FOR HEART PALPATATIONS.
MY BLOOD PRESSURE DROPPED DOWN TO 101/58 3 DAYS AGO. I STOPPED TAKING THE PRESSURE MEDS & THE METOPROLOL & MY PRESSURE HAS ONLY RISEN SLIGHTLY. HOWEVER MY HEART RATE HAS INCREASED TO BETWEEN 88 & 90. IT IS USUALLY BETWEEN 68-78. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Metoprolol should not be stopped abruptly. It is supposed to be gradually withdrawn and only then stopped. Otherwise it can cause a rebound increase in blood pressure and pulse.

When I see someone like you in y practice, I carefully review blood pressure readings taken at home and in my office, over the course of several days and weeks. When I see a pattern like low blood pressure readings only then do I recommend reduction in medicine doses or if necessary stopping some of the medicines.
Just one reading on the lower side is not enough to justify stopping multiple medications. Unless of course it is precariously low and there are associated symptoms such as feeling light headed/ passing out.
Regarding the thyroid, armor is not recommended by thyroid experts. Guidelines by experts have persistently recommended levo thyroxine for the treatment of hypothyroidism.
Armor has T3 which can cause heart palpitations.
