Can Clindamycin Taken For An Abscess In The Gums?
Clindamycine covers well mouth infection but you will need to see a dentist
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM.
Clindamycine is an antibiotic that covers well the bacterial flora of the mouth and might also cover the infection that is causing the abscess in your gums. However, please note that antibiotics are not the only and the best treatment for gum abscess though.
You will need to have a dental check up done to find the source of the infection and treat the sourse of it and sometimes having dental procedures is needed like: incision and draining of the abscess, root canal treatment and sometimes it is even needed to remove the tooth that is causing it- it is the dentist that will need to decide on the appropriate procedure you will need.
Meanwhile, you may take some Ibuprofen and Paracetamol to help with pain and try to have soft cool food and avoid sweet, spicy or strong taste food to not worsen the pain due to sensitive inflammed gums.
To prevent abscesses in the future, you will need good oral hygiene with regular brushing and flossing avoid sweet food and see your dentist regularly.
Hope this answers to your question and is helpful to you.
I wish you quick healing.
