Can HIV Be Transmitted Through Non Penetrative Sexual Activity?

Question: dear Dr....I am a male ...2 days back I kissed a man I met a few weeks back ..we just engaged in foreplay no oral or anal sex..he had his underwear and shorts on at all times and I had my nderwear and shorts on ...however we engaged in rubbing four bodies and he rubbed his penis with his underwear and pants on against my anus with my underwear and shorts on ...I think there was like very very slight penetration fr a while...but he had his underwear and shorts on and I was wearing a pair of thick shorts and a n underwear ...my question is can his pre cum or hiv pass through layers of cloth and find its way to infection me???a lil worried plz help..thanks
Brief Answer:
No risk for transmission without skin or body fluid contact.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,
HIV cannot pass through several layers of cloth. It requires body fluids to be transmitted. If there was skin to skin contact, or anal contact with pre-ejaculatory fluid, then there is risk. But what you are describing does not sound like there was risk of HIV transmission.
I hope this information puts your mind at ease and you are have a good night.

Brief Answer:
You do not need to be tested.
Detailed Answer:
The good news is that small amounts of saliva cannot transmit HIV.
From the history you shared, it does not sound as though you have reason to have an HIV test.

thanks a lot dr...so I can continue such activities right ? as long as u don't do anal vaginal or oral sex ...can I consider myself safe in the future as well?
Brief Answer:
Yes, this is safe.
Detailed Answer:
This is ok, but if you find that wearing clothes is too cumbersome, do wear a condom and have your partner wear a condom.

thanks a lot dr...the onky reason I don't wanna do anal sex is that it isn't safe right? even condoms aren't 100 percent safe there is a certain amount if risk ??
Brief Answer:
There is some risk.
Detailed Answer:
Yes, there is some risk - if the condom tears or breaks. Your way is safe. I was suggesting condoms if you were to start doing more than what you have been doing with having sex with clothes on.
