Brief Answer:
CERAZETTE SHOULDN'T BE TAKEN AS EMERGENCY PILL.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us. Followings are my comments:
1) CERAZETTE is progesterone only pill or XXXXXXX pill and contains Desogestrel as ingredient. It SHOULDN'T be taken as emergency contraceptive pill. It is a regular pill and taken from 1st day of menstrual cycle for continuous 28 days. It is usually given following delivery or abortion.
2) For emergency contraception, you should take LEVONORGESTREL containing pill like PLAN B One Step etc. It should be taken within 72 hrs of unprotected sex. However, if you take the pill within 24 hours, it is about 95% effective.
After taking emergency pill, you will get a withdrawal bleeding within 5 to 7 days & next cycle may be delayed for 1 to 2 weeks due to hormonal imbalance and mental stress. One home pregnancy test is advised if your period is delayed more than 1 week.
Hope, it helps for your information. Kindly, close the discussion if you don't have any other query.
Wish your good health and practice safe sex.

thank you for your answer. I know that normally I have to take a pill like Plan B, but it is an emergency and I cannot find such pills. I know that regular contraceptive pills may be used also as emergency ones. Thus my question is if under these curcumstances cerazette can be used as emergency pill. thank you
Brief Answer:
CERAZETTE is NOT effective for emergency pill
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for your follow up query.
CERAZETTE is a XXXXXXX pill (low dose progesterone only pill) and it is NOT effective for emergency pill.
You can use Combined OCP like XXXXXXX or MARVELON etc as emergency pill. It is quite effective instead of CERAZETTE if you don't find PLAN B. Four pills are to be taken as soon as possible (within first 24 hrs of sex) and repeat the same dose (4 pills) after 12 hrs to get highest protection against unwanted pregnancy.
Hope, it helps for you. Kindly, close the discussion.
All the best and good luck.
Regards,
Dr Soumen
