Can IUD Be Used For Contraception By Women Who Have Not Given Child Birth?

Question: Hi my daughter is 18 and wants a iud for contraception I am wondering if it is advisable for her to have one as she hasn't given birth yet and they say that they have to push through her uterus and it can be very painful. she has been suffering irregular very heavy periods most times 2 periods a month sort of thing going on. her pap smear was ok. she also suffers from acne. no other health problems, will the iud help with the acne or is she better to make the decision to go with the pill rather than the iud as they say this helps with both problems thankyou

There are some facts about your trouble-

-The IUD (Minera) can be used in nulliparous women (not give childbirth).
- It is usually a first line drug if the patient is bleeding heavily and needs contraception as well.
- Yes! Insertion is quite painful, but it has given contraception for years.
-It is not helpful in the treatment of acne or may be it increase it (because they contain only progesterone hormone).
- Oral contraceptive is the first line drug for acne treatment.
-It is a second line drug in the treatment of menstrual irregularities.
- It should be ingested daily and regularly otherwise when she misses the pill breakthrough bleeding occurs.
