Can Insulin Shots Be Discontinued While On Humalog Mix And Gemer Forte?
Question: Hi Experts,
This is my second query on my mother diabetic medication.
Currently she is taking Gemer Forte 2 (one morning and one night) and Humalog Mix 50 (5 unit in morning)
Her sugar is almost control with some little variation. I want to know if we can stop the insulin and give tablets only as you can see that she is just taking only 5 units of Humalog. Any suggestion?
Or slowly the units needs to decrease and increase the dose of medicine.. something like..?
Also we had given her Ferinject 100mg injection mixed in 100ml NS for low hemoglobin 8.6. Shall we continue the oral tablets Neurokind 1500mcg?

Thanks for your question noted your concern.
If her Kidney and Heart function is normal and blood sugar levels are acceptable one can stop insulin (Humalog Mix 50).
After stopping insulin there is need to recheck blood sugar level after 10 to 15 days and if required oral medications like DPP4 inhibitors like Sitagliptin, Vildagliptin or Tineligliptin can be added to current oral medication.
Discuss it with her treating diabetologist as physical examination and other details need to be considered.
Neurokind is a Vitamin B12 supplement and Ferinject is a iron supplement.
So continue taking Neurokind 1500mcg.
