Question: I was just diagnosed as bipolar. I am 62. Real hard to understand. He said instead of highs and lows I have lows and anger. So what will Lamontrigine do for me? And is it going to help the severe depression I feel?

Hello, and thanks for your question.

Bipolar disorder includes distinct periods of depression and elevated OR irritable/angry mood. Lamotrigine is FDA approved to treat bipolar disorder, and has been proven to help with angry episodes as well as help with depressive episodes. In your case, I would expect your depression to improve with this medication.

What about the severe headaches I wake up with. Nothing helps them. Is this part of the bipolar?
Right now I have you for two more days. How is the cost of talking you through the other access handled?

Detailed Answer:
Headaches are not a part of bipolar disorder. I would encourage neurology consultation to assess the cause of and potential treatment for headaches.
