Can Liv 52 DS Be Taken While On Metformin?
ThoughLiv52 DS , perhaps indicated because of SGPT 55 and GGPT 61, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease with grade2 fatty infiltration . Hep.b and c negative. Mildly obese with BMI at 27. Age 59. Only truncal obesity.
Lipids alright. Only TSH mildly elevated at 6.15, T3 and T4 normal. No medicine for this.
Thanks
You can take Liv 52.
Detailed Answer:
Hi, Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for your question.
Noted your concern.
If there are no symptoms of nausea, vomiting, weakness mentioned levels of SGPT & GGTP are not of worry.
These elevated levels are most likely due to Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis which is apart of insulin resistance.
In such situation, I may suggest -
- Weight loss to maintain healthy BMI.
- Diabetic diet.
- Regular exercise as tolerated.
- Increase dose of Metformin to 1500 to 2000mg per day in divided dose after ensuring normal kidney and heart function.
- You can take Liv 52 as Liver tonic.
- Statin therapy (Lipid lowering drug) though your Lipid profile is normal.
Marginally elevated TSH with normal T3, T4 suggest subclinical hypothyroidism.
In your case it may not required any treatment.
You should discuss all these with your treating doctor in next appointment.
Hope this helps you.

Dr Abhay Mali.
