default
Posted on Tue, 5 Jan 2016
Question: ENT found nothing I my ear or eustacian tubes. Some Mild inflammation which is now gone due to a 6 day medrol pack.

It's been suggested that I try met meclizine as the tinnitus is even worse without the swelling. Do you have any thoughts on that?

Brief Answer:
It can be used but, life style modification has shown more benefits

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic!

Based on the history you have shared, it is good to know that eustachian tube has been shown to be free of infections and treatment for decongestion helped too, but as far as your query regarding tinnitus and meclazine are concerned, it is better to monitor your symptoms for two weeks as after acute settlement of inflammations tinnitus may persist for a while before complete remission but if symptoms persist other causes of tinnitus like miniers disease, inner ear abnormalities on audiograms and radiography alongwith detailed metabolic profile including thyroid, electrolytes and sugar levels may be needed.

As far as, meclazine is concerned, yes it has been known to cause symptomatic benefits in patients, with tinnitus though FDA doesn't include it in treatment guides for tinnitus. As it can be associated with dry mouth, constipation and drowsiness in significant amount. You can discus using it with your GP in amount like 25mg twice or thrice if your physicians recommends so.

Avoiding noise fluctuations, taking adequate sleep, having group therapy sessions, avoiding over usage of coffee or alcohol and keeping your self stress free with excersicse routine have shown to have significant benefits in the patient with tinnitus.

Hoping you a speedy recovery. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Kindly rate me generously and write a review if possible as a source of encouragement. Regards.
