Can Metamucil Be Taken When Suffering From Clostridium Difficile?
Question: Can I take Metamucil if I have c diff? YYYY@YYYY
Brief Answer:
Yes!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
Yes, you can take metamucil even if you have cdiff. However, this is not the treatment for Cdiff. Cdiff is treated with Metronidazoleor vancomycin. If medical treatment fails, other possibilities like stool transplant can be considered. In between, what is the reason for you taking metamucil?
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

I am taking Cefdinir (after Augmentin failed) to cure a sinus infection. After 4 days (Saturday) a couple of bouts of watery diareha. so I went to a walkin clinic. They gave me Flagyl and told me to not take it until a brought in a stool sample so Monday afternoon I took a dose and Tuesday morning I took a dose. No diareha on Sunday or Monday. I was kind of freaked out about the side effects of Flagly so I doctor told me to stop until the sample came back since no diareaha on Sunday or Monday. Now I am kind of constipated so that is why I was asking about Metamucil.
Brief Answer:
Thanks!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
With this added information, the chances of having Cdiff are almost zero. Cdiff presents with diarrhea and not constipation. It is okay to take metamucil for this.
I wish you well.
Thanks!
