Can Milflox Drops Be Used For Redness In Eye During Pregnancy?
Better to avoid moxiflox
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Welcome to HCM forum.
Thanks for posting to us.
Moxifloxacin belongs to pregnancy category C (Animal studies has shown adverse fetal effects. There are no controlled study data in human pregnancy).
Category C drugs are used during pregnancy only when benefit outweighs risk.
But, you need not expect any adverse effects by just 3 doses.
For conjunctivitis in pregnancy, we usually give more safer drops like tobramycin. Agents like moxifloxacin is used when this fails.
It is better to consult your ophthalmologist to confirm the presence of conjunctivitis. If it is only conjunctival irritation, and not infection we need not antibiotic treatment. If you are not able to reach doctor right now, you can use tobramycin drops (2 drops every 2 hours for 2 days, then every 4 hours for 3 days). If the symptoms are not getting down by 2 days, kindly see your doctor without further delay.
Hope this will answer your query.
