I'm scared to do this. I understand there's a pill way to do this prep where you take 40 pills twice w water Is this method effective without the negative side effects

There is an alternative method; where ingestion of tablets in divided doses is required to prepare the bowel. "Osmo prep", the new form of sodium phosphate pills, requires a total of 32 tablets (in divided doses) to be ingested before the endoscopic examination.
However, "PEG 3350 and electrolyte solution" is the most widely method used for bowel preparation.
Either you choose the former or latter method, both are equivocal in eliminating the fecal matter from colon. Both methods may lead to similar side effects - bloating and abdominal pain. However, side effects may OR may not be experienced. If any untoward symptom experienced, You may discuss it with your treating physician.
