Can Prozac And Abilify Be Taken Together?

Question: I am trying different antidepressants mostly for high anxiety. My Dr just switched me over from 100 mg Zoloft to 40 mg Prozac. Is it safe to switch over in this manner? I am also on 5 mg Abilify. Are this two medications fine to be taking together in your opinion?

Zoloft and prozac are the same class of SSRIs so yes the switch over is fine and your doctor did the right thing. And abilify is an antipsychotic and anti maniac agent. The use of prozac and abilify together is not good. fluoxetine / Prozac will increase the level or effect of aripiprazole /Abilify by affecting hepatic enzyme CYP2D6 metabolism. Possible serious or life-threatening interaction. Monitor closely. Use alternatives if available. In nutshell switch over is fine but use together is not fine.Get to your psychiatrist for replacement or a dose readjustment. I hope it helps.Dont forget to close the discussion please. Take care
