Can Yazone Be Stopped Abruptly?

Question: Can going off YazOne after being in it for four years cause weight gain and depression. I went on it for acne it helped so much but made my period worse. I went off last XXXXXXX and did not get my period for nine months. My Acne came back slowly and by September of this year it was worse than ever. I went back on YazOne in October ant it slowly got better again. It's been gone all the way since may. But I went off again three weeks ago because my period is so bad and it's been hard to sleep since I went back on it. I am eating more than usual and generally don't feel myself. I am twenty one and don't want my acne to come back but this drug has changed me emotionally since I first went on it. It's the only thing that helped my acne I had tried everything else. Dermatologist, all kinds of skin products and treatment, this is the only thing that got rid of it. Would something like acne peril work or another birth control that's not sp harsh.

I have gone through your query and understood your concern and would like to address the same.

As per your clinical history ,Yazone is a combined oral contraceptive pill indicated to treat your acne.this drug is associated with various side effects like menstrual cycle disturbances,mood changes,depression and weight gain.These symptoms show rebound severity especially on stopping the drug as in your case.These drugs should be tapered over a period of time.

I at once strongly urge and recommend you to stop this drug before you experience a full blown picture of its side effects.

New promising drugs have to treat acne have evolved and i suggest you use them instead.
These drugs mostly act as surface antibiotics,include- adaplene,clindamycin,benzoyl peroxide,doxycycline,clarithromycin,erythromycin,minocycline,nadifloxacin,sulphaetamide.

The above mentioned drugs for acne be used either singly or in combination for effective results.Both topical and oral formulations are available.
Use regular face scrubs containing salicylic acid for effective exfoliation of dead cells.

Could you please tell me exactly what oral drug I could take to keep it from coming back. I have spent a lot of money prior to yaz trying to get the same result I got with yaz. Proactive, an expensive combo from a board certified skin care Dr. , along with a dermatologist just to name a few. I started this process with my parents help at the age of 14. I am going on Friday but will not have the time for such an in depth discussion. It would be helpful to have a name to ask the Dr for so I don't go around in circles again. I go back to school in late August and am far away from home. I don't want it to start back up just as I finally arrive on main campus. I am a junior. Thanks for your help. I am off yaz now and have been for three weeks.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern.

The combination of treatment which best suits you is - Topical ointment of Adaplene plus Clindamycin -apply daily before bed time,and Systemic therapy with Doxycycline 100 mg per oral bid for 3 -6 months plus Isotretinoin.
ALSO REDUCE THE INTAKE OF FAT.

Note:In any case while on isotretnoin,the patient should not conceive/become pregnant,as the drug is highly teratogenic(harmful effects on foetus).
Conceiving of a child should take place only after 3 months of stopping the isotretinoin drug.

You can discuss the above treatment pattern with your treating doctor on your appointment day and get the best possible advice after discussing the risks and benefits.
