Can A Gall Stone Cause Damage To The Liver?
After the surgery, I was told that everything was back to normal and I should be fine. My questions is:Could the gall stone have damaged my liver to cause the low count and enlarged
spleen or could this be something that may correct itself. I feel fine
Yes sir, the blocked bile ducts can cause this entire scenario, explained
Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.
Thank you for writing to us.
I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. The blocking of bile ducts causes the build up of bile and all other toxic waste that causes liver damage; this usually happens in a condition called biliary cirrhosis.
In this condition the liver experiences a lot of damage, but with early treatment the livers health can return to normal. Another complication of this condition is splenomegaly (which is the enlargement of the liver). With increased pressure in the portal vein (another complication of biliary cirrhosis), other blood vessels also enlarge (like in the spleen), that results in the retention of white blood cells and platelets, ultimately resulting in their reduced numbers in the system.
So in conclusion, the answer to your question is a Yes; the blocked bile ducts resulted in damage to the liver, and spleenomegaly, and also a drop in your platelet count; but I trust it shall soon normalise sir.
I hope you find my response helpful and informative. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.
Best wishes.
