Can A Girl With AC Genotype Marry A Guy With SS Genotype?
Risk of either carrier or Sickler state
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX
Thanks for your query.
AC genotype denotes Hemoglobin C trait. Being a carrier state, it does not cause disease but the Hemoglobin gene can be passed on to the child. XXXXXXX genotype denotes Sickler state (Sickle cell disease).
If a person with AC genotype marries someone with XXXXXXX genotype, then the genotype of their offspring (children) can be either AS or SC.
Genotype "AS" being a carrier state will not manifest as Sickle cell disease, but can carry it to the next generation.
While those with "SC" genotype will develop the Sickle cell disease.
I would not advice marriage between these two genotypes.
Wishing you a good health.
Take care.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX
Thanks for your follow up query.
A person with genotype SC is said to have Hemoglobin SC disease.
Hemoglobin SC disease is a form of sickle cell disease.
The person with this condition has Red Blood Cells which sickle (similar to those with XXXXXXX genotype).
The degree of anemia in SC is Mild to Moderate (hemoglobin level 11-12 mg/dl), as compared to the Severe degree of anemia (hemoglobin level 6-10 mg/dl) in XXXXXXX
The symptoms are not as severe as compared to XXXXXXX
However, the sickling of red cells in SC may cause mild hemolytic anemia (low red blood counts), painful crises, enlarged spleen, infections, lung problems, strokes, etc.
In contrast to Hb XXXXXXX life expectancy is only slightly/ moderately shortened in an individual with SC genotype.
But life expectancy is less as compared to a normal healthy person.
Hope I have been able to answer your query.
Please let me know if I need to clarify further.
Wishing a good health.
Take care.
