Can A Lower Back Injury Contribute To Knee Pain?

default
Posted on Wed, 18 Jan 2017
Question: I had a lumbar strain which eventually led to secondary knee conditions (I had arthroscopic knee surgery on both knees). I now have arthritis in the hip. My question is, what is the medical explanation relating either the lumbar or knees to the hip?

Brief Answer:
Complex relationship.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have read your query and I will try my best to explain you the relationship you want to know.

Firstly, you see that during standing position, whole body weight is on spine and joints of lower limb.

So even if one of the following-

ankle joint, knee joint, hipjoint, Lumbar spine gets affected then the others have to share that burden.

So if knee joint is arthritic then weight is more on hip joint of same side, similarly if lumbar spine or knee joint is arthritic then, whole weight will be bear by hip joint.

There is a lot more scientific theories on that which other than doctor can't understand, so I have tried my best to explain you in your language.

I hope it helps.

Thanks,
