Posted on Wed, 17 Jun 2015
Question: Hi doctor,
My 2 years old baby girl, recently crushed her index and middle finger in a machine. It's been just 4 days. We have met plastic surgeon doctor. He has asked to come for dressing every second day. But still wanted to take second opinion. What could be possibility to get her fingers fixed. Can it be transplanted, reconstructed? Normally how much time it takes to heal such wound. I want to try best treatment for my baby. Please help.
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
She will improve

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query.
I would like to know whether x ray was done to rule out bone injury?
If there was no bony injury and muscles and soft tissue are intact then there is no problem.
It will heal.
Even if there is loss of soft tissue it can be repaired by taking graft from other covered part of body however this is done only after 18 to 30 years of age when growth of body stops.
A photograph would have helped me in giving better suggestions but I know it would be difficult for you as it would be covered by dressing.
Don't worry she will improve, go ahead with the treatment.
Let me know if you have any other doubt.
Thank you
