Can Bipolar Diagnosis Be Reversed?
It is difficult to reverse the diagnosis
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for using healthcare magic. I, Dr Abhishek Kapoor, would help you in this query.
Number of patients are misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder. Sometime, due to their personality or anxiety disorder, psychiatrists misdiagnose them with bipolar disorder. Bipolar disorder has episodic pattern. If you do not have any symptoms for now, then psychiatrist can label you as case of bipolar disorder currently in remission, but it is difficult to reverse the diagnosis. Bipolar disorder is primary diagnosis and all other diagnosis either come part of it or under it. Suppose, if you have borderline personality, then diagnosis could be bipolar disorder with borderline personality traits. If someone has labelled you bipolar disorder, now it is difficult to remove that label. Better to have diagnosis of bipolar disorder in remission. With that, you can be off treatment.
In case, you have any query, you can ask.

Amphetamine could cause manic episode
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Situation depression is kind of adjustment disorder. It could happen with anyone. In that case, patient need treatment in form of antidepressant for few months or supportive therapy.
Amphetamine is psycho-stimulant and it could lead to mania like symptoms. It could be the reason to diagnose you as bipolar disorder. To make diagnosis of bipolar disorder, we need one depressive episode and one manic episode. May be due to situation depression and amphetamine induced mania, you could have been diagnosed as bipolar disorder, but according to guideline, we can not diagnose a patient bipolar, if he/she get manic or depressive episode due to any substance.
In my view, you could be a case of adjustment disorder rather than bipolar. In case, you have more query, you can ask.

It is not possible
Detailed Answer:
HI
Sorry, this is not possible. No doctor would accept that he or she has made wrong diagnosis. Even if you want to give a written note to your doctor, that you would not XXXXXXX him/her, even then doctor would not accept this. You can be off treatment by getting diagnosis of bipolar disorder currently in remission, but can not get 'you did not have bipolar disorder".
In case, you need further help, you can ask.

You have to hind past treatment records
Detailed Answer:
Hi
While making diagnosis, being a psychiatrist, we also consider past treatment records. Suppose a patient comes to us with past history of bipolar disorder by a psychiatrist and in current episode, patient has only anxiety symptoms, even then diagnosis would remain same. According to DSM or ICD, bipolar disorder is primary diagnosis. If you want to change diagnosis, you have to hind past record and you have to explain past symptoms in detail. This could help in reverse the diagnosis. Rest, depends upon psychiatrist and your skill.
If you have more query, you can ask.
