Can Cocaine Usage Lead To Small Indentations In The Septum?
Question: Hi i have quit cocaine now for 10 days.Ihave gone through the acute withdrawl stage.i had been doing it snorting i mean for 4 months.i have created two small indentations or craters in both side of my septum.Iread on the internet that the septum is the only part of the nose that has great capacity to regenerate.do you think that with time those indentations will repair themselfes.please let me know i am a little scared.i dont have a deviated or perforated septum yet.Guess i stopped just in time.
Brief Answer:
Nasal septum changes
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare Magic and thanks for putting up the query
The nasal septum indentations are indicative of chronic septal changes due to cocaine use.
If you have already stopped using cocaine, the degenerative process will stop here only. the cartilage in the septum doesn't have regenerating properties. only mucosa can heal.
Any further use of cocaine will definitely lead to perforation. my advice is you should not use cocaine anymore. this will avoid any further damage.
Any further questions are always welcome.
Take care
Thanks and regards

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Mucosa is the pink lining of the nasal cavity.
The septal changes are usually permanent. They cannot heal by themselves. If the septum gets perforated, it needs to be operated otherwise nothing is to be done.
It would be better to get examined by an Ent specialist.
Any further questions are always welcome.
