Question: My GP prescribed dexamethasone for 10-day old sinus congestion, cold and fever. Three days on dosage, minimal relief from congestion, coughing.

Can I safely take either Robitussin Cough + Chest Congestion DM or Nyquil to relieve my congestion and coughing before I go to sleep. I take dexamethasone at 9 a.m. with food.

Brief Answer:
Considerations.

Detailed Answer:
hello and thank you for sending the question.

It may take a few days for the symptoms of your sinus infection to significantly improve. The dexamethasone should have a gradual impact on your symptoms.

however, if you were still having significant cough and congestion you may use Robitussin or NyQuil for symptomatic relief. There should be no interaction with either of these preparations and the dexamethasone.

If you continue to have symptoms beyond the next 3 to 4 days I would touch base with your primary care doctor for further recommendations.

thank you again for sending a question.

Sincerely,

Dr. Galamaga
