Can Friction Cuts On Penis Cause HIV?

default
Posted on Wed, 22 Jun 2016
Question: This is kind of a weird question. So recently i have been masturbating a good bit at least once a day, for various reasons. I started to get cuts from friction i presume but continued to masturbate daily for about 2 months. During this time i have not had any sexual activity at all and simply wanted to know if the cuts could somehow put me at a risk for HIV from bacteria picked up from my hand possibly. Again i have not been sexually active during this time but still wondered if it was possible due to the cuts and outside germs on my hands.

Brief Answer:
Information about HIV

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

I can understand your concern. But it turns out that HIV cannot live outside of the body on surfaces for more than a few seconds. Initially when less was known about HIV, we did not know if casual transmission like this was possible. Now we know that it is not.

However, you can transmit bacteria that you have on your hands into cuts and get skin infections this way. These are not STD germs but rather the same bacteria that can cause skin infections anywhere on your body. So anytime you are touching cut skin anywhere on your body, wash your hands first with soap and water. It does not have to be antibacterial soap (and is best, in fact, if it isn't). Just regular soap and water.

About the skin lacerations, it would be best if you let them heal. They will heal quickly. You can put Zinc Oxide ointment on them to facilitate healing. You can get this at any drugstore.

Use a good lubricant to decrease friction, such as Astroglide. This might help prevent future skin tears and abrasions.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information or clarification.
