Can Itching In The Groin Area Be A Sign Of Anal Fissure?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
From last two years I have itching in groins, anal area and skin formation in line between buttocks.
It does give relief if steroid anti fungal creams are used but bounces back after three four days. I have eaten flucanozole and clotirazole for weeks no respite.
Coul it be due to anal fissures?
Please advise
Could be fungal in origin, anal fissure is unlikely.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting Healthcaremagic!
I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.
The symptoms you have mentioned suggestive of tinea cruris(Jock itch) which is caused by fungal infection.
Anal fissure is very unlikely because fissure causes extreme pain and rectal bleeding, and itching and groin involvement are not common with anal fissure.
You don't need to worry much regarding this because it can be cured completely with proper treatment.
We have to rule out other possibilities before starting the treatment.
I suggest you to consult a dermatologist and get the following things done:-
(1)- Topical antifungal creams are used as first line therapy for tinea cruris, since you are not showing good results with clotrimazole you can go for imidazole or allylamine family. You should not use steroid containing creams because it can cause flaring up of the lesion.
(2)- Oral antifungals like fluconazole or terbenafine may be needed for weeks in resistant cases.
(3)- Keep the affected area dry. You can use antihistamines like cetrezine for itching.
You have to keep in mind that do not ever stop the antifungals with out doctor's advise. This is the most important thing to prevent recurrence.
Follow these tips to prevent recurrence:-
1.Wear loose-fitting clothing and underwear.
2.Do not scratch the affected area.
3.Shower as soon as possible after exercising.
Hope i have answered your query.
Wishing you good health.
Thanks.
