Suffering From Mild Rectal Bleeding, Losing Weight. What Could Be The Reason?

Hi Dr. Grief,

For last two days I had rectal bleeding. Amount of blood was not much, may be like a drop or two. I am not sure what's the reason. I lost lot of weight in past few months. I was thinking if that could be the reason. I just want to know if I should see the doctor immediately and what should I eat to make the healing process quicker.

Thanks
Ruchi

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear Ruchi,

Rectal bleeding can be due to:
1. Hemorrhoid
2. Fissure
3. Colorectal cancer
4. Polyp
5. Colitis

Loss of weight can be secondary to this.
So, kindly consult a Gastroenterologist & get a proper physical examination done.
Investigations like complete blood count, Ultrasound scan of abdomen, Colonoscopy & contrast studies will be helpful to rule out any pathological cause for your symptoms.

There is no need to worry, you will be fine.
Till then, take healthy nutritious diet, exercise regularly and keep away stress.

Wishing a good health.
Take care.
