Brief Answer:
Periods return back by 6 months after delivery in most of cases.

Detailed Answer:
Hello xxxxxxxx,

Welcome to health care magic.

I have read your query and understand the problem.Let me answer your queries one by one.

1) Usually periods return back by 6 months after delivery.

In case of exclusive breast feeding, periods may take 9 to 12 months to return.

Your wife may start her periods after the cessation of breast feeding, usually within 1 month.

So,considering her delivery in XXXXXXX you can calculate the months.

Also, it means as long as she is breast feeding to the baby, she will not get her periods because of the effect of hormones and also she will not ovulate.

This is the reason why she has not observed her menstruation.

Lactation (in breast feeding mothers) provides 'natural' contraception by delaying ovulation under the influence of hormones.

2) Yes,contraceptive pills can be taken during breast feeding which will not cause any harm to the feeding baby but it would be best to use condom as a contraceptive method during this time.

Hope this detailed explanation will be helpful.
