Can Quitting Of Alcohol Reverse The Symptoms Of Liver Fibrosis?
Question: dear doctor, I have diagnosed with f3 liver fibrosis on fibroscan. ast is 51, alt 65 and all other lft normal. lipids are normal. grade 3 fatty liver. I used to take alcohol daily. very honestly do you think its reversible or not.
Brief Answer:
not completely reversible
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
if you have F 3 fibrosis on fibroscan then it is unlikely to be reversible. Your management should focus on prevention of progression of fibrosis.
Completely stopping alcohol is the first step in doing this.
I would advise a upper GI endoscopy to look for presence of dilated veins ( varices) in the esophagus.
Hope this helps
