Can Steroids Cause Oral Thrush?

I have the below questions which is worrying me for long time.
I had last protected sex in July 2015 and March 2016 and don''t had any after that. I tested for HIV in charitable trust , they used Alere HIV combo for testing (rapid test in 20 minutes). I tested four times and it came as negative. In Feb , I had Medrol for four weeks for my skin problem lichen planus and it is stopped by end of Feb.
However, just three days back I saw my tongue has swollen (no pain) and went to doctor. Doctor told there is oral thrush in the back of my tongue. and he prescribed some drops to swallow.
Could you please let me know if my hiv rapid test(alere test combo) taken are accurate or do i need to test again? Is oral thrush due to that or steroids? Forgot to say, I was having beer daily for a month also. Is it something to do with oral thrush?
steroid induced oral thrush most likely, continue the current treatment..
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX, welcome back to HCM..
I've gone through your query and understand your concern..
First of all let me assure you that you've gone through Alere HIV combo test, which is 4th generation test and highly sensitive as well as accurate, on top of that you've got tested four times, so don't worry about HIV..
Oral thrush can certainly happen after steroid therapy, and you've also consumed alcohol on daily basis, which is an aggravating factor in this, so it's good that you've already started taking treatment for this, please continue it as already prescribed by your treating doctor..
Please Cut down and stop the alcohol intake which will help your healing process also..
Don't worry about this HIV thing, get it out of your mind, be happy and stay safe, you'll be fine within a matter of time..
Take Care
Kind Regards
