Can Synthoid For Thyroid Cause Atrial Fibrillation?

Question: Since Afib episode on operating table, Aug14,13, I have been on diltiazem. After going thru tests, last one being the identifying one--rbbb. Pre test showed heart structurally and clinically ok--no blocked arteries. What is the accepted and recommended treatment at this point?

Situation need to be reviewed and consider oral anticoagulants

Detailed Answer:
It is quite common to have few runs of Afib when you very stressed or painful illness. And being on diltiazem for that is fine. But as overall management we need to classification your AFib appropriately, whether you have recurrent episodes or no? If you have reccurance symptomatic or asymptomatic we need to consider putting you on oral anticoagulants and also consider need for EP studies and ablation. If no reccurance and last episode was more than six month old and your TSH is normal than you might have consider withdrawing Diltiazem in consultation with your cardiologist.
Yes thyroid disorders can cause or predispose to AF especially when TSH is high.
