Can The Exelon Patch Cause An Increase In Potassium Levels?

My husband has been having high potassium since starting and no
reason can be found...it is running 6.4....They took him off his Tekturna
but it is still high.
Hyperkalemia does not occur with these medications.
Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam, Hi
Thanks for posting your query on healthcare magic.
I appreciate your concern for your beloved husband.
Prescribed in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, none of these medications can cause hyperkalemia (an increase in serum potassium levels).
The most common side effects of Exelon Transdermal Patch (Rivastigmine) include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia/decreased appetite, and weight loss. Dehydration may result from prolonged vomiting or diarrhea which can in fact cause a decreased serum potassium levels.
Namenda (Memantine) can cause dizziness, confusion, hallucinations, sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body or lack of coordination. It is unlikely to affect the serum potassium levels.
However, hyperkalemia is an import side effect of BP lowering medication
Tekturna (Aliskiren).
Serum potassium level returns to its normal value after discontinuing Tekturna.
Hope I could answer your query, however should you have any follow up query kindly let me know.
Best regards.
