Child Born With Small Ear And 3 Extra Skin Flaps On The Lobe. Any Thoughts?
Question: My grandaughter was born with one ear that appears to be deformed. It is smaller than her other ear and seems to have 3 extra skin flaps on the lobe. Any thoughts on what could cause this?
Hi
Welcome to XXXXXXX and thanks for your query.
What she has, unfortunately, is a congenital anomaly since it is from birth.
Concerns are.
1. To look for other congenital anomalies esp. in the kidneys - by doing scan of the abdomen.
2. Since she is a girl, cosmesis may be an issue.
3. Hearing issues.
If ultrasound scan shows no other abnormalities and hearing is ok- as check by the audiometrist, there should be nothing to worry.
She needs a general examination to look for other obvious external abnormalities which may not be seen in the first look.
Cosmesis can be sorted out by the cosmetic surgeon.
Wishing her good health
