Child Diagnosed With UTI Infection. Having Little Appetite, Fever, Stomach Aches, Vomiting And Uncontrolled Frequent Urinations. Treatment?

Question: My daughter is almost 5 and has been diagnosed with uti infection. Is this common in children ? We are concerned she may have had it for a while as little appetite, fever, stomach aches, vomiting and uncontrolled frequent urinations. She has lost considerable weight and current fever is 40. She has had bad allergic reactions to antibiotics as a baby. Not sure which ones now. What is your short term advice ?
Hi
Thanks for writing to health care magic.
1) UTI is very common in kids esp girls.
2) I would generally advice urine culture to find thecausative organism and its antiantibiotic sensitivity. You can continue cefuroxime if the bacteria is sensitive.
If you are giving it according to culture report and still your daughter is sick its better to hospitalise her and give her iv medicines.
Because high uti ( kidneys _ get ultrasound done to find out ) might not respond to oral antibiotics whereas lower uti usually does.
Wishing your daughter speedy recovery.
