What Is The Relation Between Diprofos And Antibiotics?

good day to all the doctors out there..i just want to ask the relation of diprofos to antibiotics..one doctor said it s alright to not do allergy testing or the so called skin test for antibiotics such as cefuroxime and ceftriaxone because diprofos is also being given..though as per policy it is a must to do skin test before and antibiotic is given..thank you very much..

Hi,

Antibiotics such as Cefuroxime and Ceftriaxone, need to be tested for allergy before administering full dose. Usually, it is only for first dose of the antibiotic. Allergic reaction is the sign of immune response to the foreign antigens that are entering into the body. Diprofos, betamethasone, a cortico-steroid used in allergy, swelling, etc.

Since, allergic response is due to the body's immune response, chronic cortico-steroid administration reduce the normal immunological reaction of the body to other agents. That is the reason your doctor told that the allergy test not needed for antibiotics. Cortico-steroids are used specially when needed. Discuss with your doctor about the need of cortico-steroid therapy and antibiotics.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
