Child Getting Fever, Cough And Cold Frequently. Constant Constipation. Worried
Question: Sir, my daughter is 3 years old. On 5th December last year she suffered from cold, cough and fever and she was given Calpol, Prospan, cetzine and she was ok after 4 to 5 days. Then again on 1st January this year she got high fever with vomiting, cough and cold and she was diagnosed of suffering from pneumonia by our pedriatrician for which she was regularly nebulised with Levolin 0.63 for about 8 days and was given calpol syrup, sumo mf, and periset for vomiting for 3 days and she was also given injection Xone xp for 7 days after which she as ok for about 20 days and then again on 5th of Feb she got high fever with cold and cough and she was prescribed with Calpol syrup, Sumo Mf, cetzine, and Asthalin expectorant and then too when her fever persisted for 3 to 4 days, she was prescribed with Antibiotic Pratham 100 for 3 days along with other medicines. Then again on 12th March she suffered from high fever and she was again prescribed with Calpol, allegra and astheling expectorant along with Meftal P100 (1/2 Tab SOS) and she as ok after 5 days of medication. Then on 19th March she was prescribed Telecast L Kid for strengthening her immunity as she was suffering from fever so frequently which we are giving her till now. Again on 22nd April she suffered with high fever and again she was prescribed with calpol, sumo mf along with cefoprox 50 for 5 days and she was again nebulised for 3 to 4 days with levolin after which she was fine but even then she was prescribed with inhaler foracort200(2 puffs twice a day) along with Telecast L Kid and in case of Cough she is being given Levolin Puff. Then again she got high fever on 30th July and she was prescribed with Calpol, sumo mf and even then when her fever persisted for 4 days she was prescribed with pratham 100 for 7 days and after that she was ok and now again she is suffering from high fever since 15th of September and again she has been prescribed with calpol and sumo mf. Please guide us what should we do as we are highly worried about her getting ill so frequently. Apart from all this she also suffers from constant constipation due to which she has developed fisher problem.
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing to healthcaremagic
From what you described I can understand that your child has been suffering from cold, cough, fever and whhezing repeatedly.
The possible causes could be infections or Early asthma.
Please do a complete investigation for your child including Chest Xray, Mantoux test and IgE levels.
If mantoux and xray are negative and IgE levels are high , probably your child has more of allergic component ( early asthma )
Do not panic , this is easily treatable
Please continue the inhalers as per your doctors advice till then.
Let me know if you need further clarification, I will help you

Dear Sir,
I thank you for your reply. We had got her chest x-ray and other tests done and the our doctor had also told us the same thing that she has asthema and after that only we started giving her inhalers. What i am worried about is her getting ill so often i.e. almost every month with high fevers. is it ok that she is getting fever so frequently? and is giving her calpol and sumo mf each time she gets fever sufficient treatment? Also is asthema the cause for her getting fever so often?

Hi XXXXXXX
If the tests have already been done, then probably you should continue inhalers. It may take some titration of dose initially to get control.
Please consult ENT doctor to rule out tonsils and adenoids which can cause high fevers too.
calpol and Sino are ok for fever. Asthma can cause fever, but check with ENT too.
regards
