Child Having Recurrent Fever. Given Calpol, Breast Feeding Is Normal. Suggest?
Thanks for posting your query.
Fever around 100F can be either due to a viral infection or might accompany the pain and discomfort of teething .
The most important thing to decrease her irritability and the fever is to maintain her hydration with plenty of fluids ( ORS , water , milk , juices , soups etc whatever she accepts ) . Give them in small quantities at frequent intervals or as sips every 15 minutes or so.
Next make sure you give her calpol drops in the right dose and interval as per doctors prescription. It contains acetaminophen which is usually given as 10 - 15 mg/ kg / dose every 4-6 hourly. It can also relieve any pain accompanying teething.
Try to make her sleep comfortably and adequately .If she has any nasal congestion accompanying then use saline nose drops for relief.
Continue breastfeeding frequently.
Watch for development of any new symptoms like cough, loose stools etc and seek medical consultation accordingly.
If despite these measures fever persists beyond 3 days your doctor might prescribe antibiotics if bacterial infection is suspected on evaluation.
If the fever worsens (>102)or child is lethargic its best to get her thoroughly evaluated by her pediatrician immediately.
Hope that answers your query.
I'll be available for any further queries .
