Child Is Frequently Urinating, Have Pains Around Belly And Headaches. Kidney Function Normal. Suggest?
Thank you in advance
Thanks for writing to healthcare magic.
Frequent urination can be due to multiple reasons, like both urine complete examination and urine culture). If not, do both these urine tests.
Other reasons include phimosis, local infection in the gland penis , diabetes mellitus, diabetes insipidus, psychological polydipsia (deliberately drinking lot of water ). Do consult your pediatrician and have his genitalia and abdomen examined. If needed he might prescribe you additional tests like morning blood sugar, urine specific gravity, etc.
Other common reason could be worm infestation. Do give your kid deworming medicine as per your pediatrician advice.
Don't worry, it should settle down soon. Let me know if you need clarifications.
Wishing your kid good health

Dr Arun.
Your answers confirm my thinking. I was thinking that he may have high glucose in the blod or he may have worms. Other times when he had the same symtoms (about 2 years by now) we checked for worms and he was fine. Not necessary the test was good. I will repeat.
Any idea if headeach could be corelated with a high glucose?
Thanks for writing back.
Headache may not be related to high blood glucose. It may be related to dehydration like in polydipsia, diabetes insipidus ( this is not glucose diabetes. ). Do consult your pediatrician if deworming doesn't help him.

Starting with afternoon my son start to have a headache and at lunch he felt dizzy, the hart start to go fast and after few minutes he was ok, but the headache was still there. My first thought was to give him some sugar. I thought that it may be the sun because outside was really hot and he was playing a bit.
At the dinner time, he get dizzy again for a minute, but this time his hart is very fast and he made a panic attack asking me to run to the emergency room. He went to the bathroom many times to urinate and he had also stomach pain. We gave him something for the pain, calm him down for the night and the second day we went to the doctor. We were instructed to watch him for few days, nothing else.
Back home, the headache is there, the stomach pain is there, he feels terrible. No more dizziness this time and the hart rate stayed normal. The second day we were back on doctor's office as he was crying for me to come back from work because he is felling really bad. Because his headache was located in the front side was ruled out that he may have sinus infection and we are with antibiotic now.
The headache is better, the stomach pain is better, but not at all gone, however the frequent urination is there and two nights before he went to the bathroom 3-4 times within 5-10 minutes complaining of the stomach pain. During the day he told me that he feels dry mouth and drinking water did not help. I got scared and I made a quick glycaemia test in the house, in the afternoon he had 131. Next day in the morning he had 111.
That is the story that is make me really worry. I believe that we are missing the point with this frequent urination. In my opinion, the color of his urine comparing with my other child is very light like water.
He usually is active, however he now is scared to go outside, he avoid any efforts, no swimming, no playing outside no sport classes. He is not laying in bad, but he clearly is not ok.
One moth ago or more he had an episode of suddenly seeing double which scared him. The doctor said if is once, I should not worry, If it is happening again to let him know. Actually I worry very much, I don't want to happen again, I want to prevent.
What would you say if I would be in your office with these symptoms?
Thank you
Believe me, really scary, to don't know what to do, how to help. Worse, I believe that we did not find the real cause of these symptoms.
Good you provided such a detailed history. I have a strong suspicion of diabetes insipidus , do consult your pediatrician or neurologist . I would generally recommend water deprivation test and MRI brain ( double vision once ) , urine tests like specific gravity and osmolality to start with.
Hope this helps, but nothing is better than a complete physical examination.
