Child With Protruded Naval. Is It Normal?

Thanks for your query to health care magic.
Protruding navel means umbilical hernia. Part of intestine is protruding through it and becomes more visible on coughing, crying. Usually it is due to weakness of abdominal wall and starts decreasing in size as the abdominal wall strength increases. It might even one year for the swelling to decrease. But need not worry about the swelling as it is self resolving. However if the swelling doesn't regress by three years which happens in a small percentage, surgery may be needed.
But you should keep a watch on the swelling. Any increase in pain, any redness or inflammation of the swelling or association of vomiting needs to be brought to the attention of doctor immediately.
Don't worry there is nothing to worry about for the moment. Its going to regress spontaneously by one year.
