How To Treat Vomiting And Stomach Pain After Taking Medrol Steroids?

My Wife is 28, 5 2 and 115 pounds. He had been diagnosed with a herniated disk T4-T5 about two weeks ago. She was prescribed medrol steroids. 4 days ago she began vomitting constantly. She was admitted to the ER 3 days ago because she could not hold water or food down. Until today, she has been constantly vomitting, they removed an appendix, and non of the treatment is helping stop the vomitting or the stomach pain. Could the vomitting be from the herniated disk and What should I do next? The doctors keep on ignoring the back injury as a possible case

Hi,

It is unlikely that vomiting is directly related to a herniated disk in the thoracic spine (T4-T5). Herniated disks in the thoracic spine usually affect the nerves that control the muscles and sensation in the trunk and may cause pain, weakness, or numbness in the chest, abdomen, or legs. Vomiting and stomach pain are not typical symptoms of a thoracic herniated disk.

However, taking Medrol (Methylprednisolone) steroids can cause a range of side effects, including gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain. These side effects can be severe, especially if the medication is taken for an extended period of time or in high doses. It is possible that your wife's vomiting is a side effect of the steroid medication rather than related to the herniated disk.

Removing the appendix would not typically be a treatment for vomiting and stomach pain, unless there was evidence of appendicitis, which is inflammation of the appendix. It's possible that the doctors are investigating other potential causes of your wife's symptoms, such as infection or inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. If your wife's symptoms continue despite medical treatment, it may be worth seeking a second opinion from another healthcare provider or requesting further testing to determine the underlying cause of her symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
