Hi,
It is unlikely that
vomiting is directly related to a
herniated disk in the thoracic spine (T4-T5). Herniated disks in the thoracic spine usually affect the nerves that control the muscles and sensation in the trunk and may cause pain, weakness, or
numbness in the chest, abdomen, or legs. Vomiting and stomach pain are not typical symptoms of a thoracic herniated disk.
However, taking Medrol (Methylprednisolone)
steroids can cause a range of side effects, including gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain. These side effects can be severe, especially if the medication is taken for an extended period of time or in high doses. It is possible that your wife's vomiting is a side effect of the steroid medication rather than related to the herniated disk.
Removing the
appendix would not typically be a treatment for vomiting and stomach pain, unless there was evidence of
appendicitis, which is inflammation of the appendix. It's possible that the doctors are investigating other potential causes of your wife's symptoms, such as infection or inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. If your wife's symptoms continue despite medical treatment, it may be worth seeking a
second opinion from another healthcare provider or requesting further testing to determine the underlying cause of her symptoms.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
