default
Posted on Tue, 30 Apr 2013
Question: My 6 year old daughter has a rash or discolouration on her top lip that looks like a moustache. It comes and goes and when its here it generally lasts for 3 days. Any ideas what this may be and what i can do?

Hi,

Thanks for your query.

A small discolouration that had appeared on the upper lip can be related to;
-allergic reactions.
-excessive exposure to sunlight.
-due to hormonal changes in females
-genetic
-or can be frequent inflammation of lip termed as angular chielitis.
-the symptom may be sign of underlying systemic infection.

You can visit a General Physician, get routine blood investigation done to find exact cause of the same
A direct examination of the area will help in proper diagnosis. Most of the time such minor skin changes are self limiting, and these do subside on their own without any treatment in 4-7 days.
You can apply 1% of hydrocortisone cream topically over the affected area for early recovery.
Apply broad spectrum sunscreen at daytime when exposed to sunlight and milkcream at night, take vitamin XXXXXXX diet, drink plenty of fluids and keep yourself hydrated.

Hope this answers your query,

Wishing you good health!
