Complaining Of Leg Pain And Chest Pain. What Can Be The Cause?

default
Posted on Wed, 25 Sep 2013
Question: My 9 yr. old grandson has been complaining of lower leg pain, sometimes pain in his feet and sometimes chest pain. He plays sports but the pains don't seem to coincide with that. What do you think it might be? His doctor asked if he'd been bitten by a tick, but nobody ever saw the typical tick bite rash.

Hi

Thanks for asking.

Generalised body pains with no other clue to any particual system can be becuase of Growing Pains. It is a condition generally seen in yound growing children due to the bony growth putting pressure on the ends of the bones and nerves and leading to mild to moderate pain with no other symptoms.

Usually these pains are worse at night or after a period of inactivity and most of the time it tend to subside in a few weeks to months.Paracetamol/ibuprofen is effective for symptomatic relief.

If it gets any worse or you notice any particualr area involvement, please consult your doctor for investigations.
