Could An Endoscopic Ultrasound Miss Pancreatic Cancer?
Question: Could an EUS miss pancreatic cancer? I had one about 17 months ago that was normal but I am still having some symptoms and losing weight.
This was an endoscopic ultrasound. I had a CT scan prior to the endoscopic ultrasound and it only showed a "small deformity in the region of the pancreatic head likely caused by a crossing vascular structure", which was what prompted the EUS. But the CT showed no masses.

Brief Answer:
probability of pancreatic cancer is low
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.
A single EUS can miss some early pancreatic cancers. But given that both CT and EUS were negative for pancreatic cancer 17 mo back, possibility of pancreatic cancer is low. And 17 mo have passed since. Though you have some symptoms, if it was untreated pancreatic cancer symptoms would have been much more worse.
Still, having another CT or MRI to be sure might be necessary. This might also help finding the cause for your symptoms
Hope this helps. I will be available for further follow up.
