Diagnosed With PCOD And Three Fibroids. Trying To Conceive. Suggest Alternative For Easier Pregnancy?
Regular ovulation is necessary for pregnancy.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to XXXXXXX
You had written in your query that you had period last November followed by this year August. Am I interpreting it correctly?
If your periods are so irregular, you need some assistance to make follicles in the form of ovulation induction tablets &/or injections. Pregnancy can't occur in the absence of ovulation.
Also you had ovulation on 28th August. If you didn't have menses till today, you might be pregnant today. You can do pregnancy test & confirm that.
For exact advice for conception following details are required:
1. How is frequency of menstrual cycles.
2. Whether you had any pelvic infection in the past (symptoms of lower abdominal pain, fever, foul smelling vaginal discharge).
3. Whether husband's semen analysis was done & if yes what is the result.
4. What treatment you have taken till now.
5. How many months/years you are trying for pregnancy (unprotected sexual intercourse).
Awaiting reply.
Regards.
I took the pregnancy test and the results stated negative.
The reason for reaching out is that my obgyn can never provide direct answers and always tells me to do a follow up. I am not a fan of sitting in a doctor's office every tick of the clock like that. Visited hospital Aug 23rd for ruptured cyst and was advised the others are not at the size for operations and neither are the three fibroids which are present. Is there a way to reduce my fibroids as well?
2. There was mild cramping from 7th September until 12th September, but there as no discharge nor fever. Last year there was a foul smelling discharge, with dark blood mixed in, but the doctor check up showed it to be old blood. No infections present and latest copscopy showed abnormal cells, but they were shown as mildly abnormal and no great need for concern. Blood work from XXXXXXX 2013, returned with all levels normal and no abnormalities.
3. My husband has not had any semen analysis completed as yet and seems to be not too open to that idea. He has one child pre-marriage, so he is quite sure it is not his issue.
4. I was on birth control from 2002 until last July. That is the only medication I have ever been on for my PCOS. I was also advised to try fertilaid, which was stated as assisting with regular cycles and pregnancy results for women with PCOS.
5. We have been trying for 10 mths now. Began Nov 25th, 2012.
Ovulation induction & tubal patency needed.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
Following is my advice:
1. As your periods are irregular, it means you are not ovulating regularly & need assistance in the form of ovulation induction medicines. Normally for ovulation induction we prescribe clomiphene citrate tablets followed bi Inj FSH if necessary, you can consult your physician for the prescription.
2. As you had history suggestive of pelvic infection, you need tubal patency test in the form of sonosalpingography/hysterosalpingography/laparoscopy. In these tests XXXXXXX is injected in uterus & spill seen either through ultrasound scan/fluroscopy/laparoscopy respectively.
Further treatment will depend on result of tubal patency test.
3. Regarding semen analysis, as your husband has one child pre-marriage you can skip it for the time being & do it later.
Let me know if you have other concerns.
Regards.
