Diagnosed With A Herniated Disc. Feel Numbness And Have Blurred Vision. Reason?

Question: Recently I was diagnosed with a herniated disc.I used to feel numbness in my head ,neck,hands and legs.I had a c section 8 months ago and thought the numbness was due to weakness but yesterday I felt the numbness in my entire body right from the head to toe and even for almost 15 minutes or so my left eye had a blurred vision I almost saw nothing with my left eye.I dont know which Doctor to consult when I spoke to the XXXXXXX medicine doctor who diagnosed me with herniated disc she suggested me to go to ER immediately but I want to consult a specialist.Please tell me the possible reason for this problem and whom should I see

Hi, this is just to let you know that herniated disc in the cervical spine will produce symptoms (pain,tingling, numbness) ONLY IN THE NECK,SHOULDER,ARM,ELBOWS and in FINGERS depending upon the level of disc herniation.

Whereas Lumbar disc herniations will produce similar symptoms in LOWER BACK, HIPS, THIGHS,LEG and in FOOT.

But your symptoms of GENERALISED NUMBNESS of entire body along with BLURRING OF VISION are not related either to cervical or lumbar disc herniation.

So I suggest you to approach your family physician or preferably a NEUROPHYSICIAN for a detailed evaluation.

How come I have numbness in the head neck shoulder,entire back ,hips,thighs and foot.And what could be the reason for the blurred vision?

Hi Mrs.Fathima, Though your symtoms of generalised numbness is not in my purview of knowledge, I suspect it could be due to some issues in the brain. And a NEUROPHYSICIAN is a better person to investigate & diagnose your problem. You may need a CT scan or an MRI of brain to rule out the causes.

Regarding you sudden loss/blurring of vision in one eye, it could be due to VASCULAR cause (disturbance in blood circulation to the eye) or a NEUROLOGICAL cause (involving optic nerve).

So its very hard to tell the exact cause for your symptoms without a thorough evaluation as they can occur in number of conditions.

As i have suggested earlier, Consult a Neurophysician for a detailed workup.
