Do I Have Type 1 Or Type 2 Diabetes? Done C-peptide Test. Want To Know About Diabetes In Detail
Thanks for the query.
The normal levels of C-peptide is .51 to 2.72 ng/ml.
High levels are found in people with type 2 diabetes and that is the reason you were switched to metformin from insulin by your doctor because insulin is the main drug for type 1 diabetes.
I will tell you the foods to be taken and foods to be avoided and that shall form the basis of your diet.
You should take foods which are high in protein, high fiber, low fat and low carbohydrates.
Carbohydrates to be taken should be complex as in whole grains and vegetables because glucose is absorbed slowly.
Foods with high fiber are. whole wheat, porridge, whole pulses, vegetables like peas, beans and lotus stem, fruits like XXXXXXX guava, pears etc.
Foods with low fibre are, Rice, bread, SUJI, MAIDA, macaroni, noodles, vegetables like potato, bottle gourd, fruits like banana, grapes, cheeku, mangoes etc.
Totally avoidable items are glucose, sugar, honey, chocolates, candies, pastries, ice creams, colas, sweets, Jaggary, XXXXXXX tinned juices.
Diet coke can be taken in small quantities.
I think I have explained you the details of the foods to be taken and to be avoided.
Hope I have answered your query. Please write back if you have any further concern.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
1. According to my C-Peptide levels, can I can confirm that my type of Diabetes is Type-2 and there is no need of Insulin now. Please correct me if I am wrong?
2 Since I am diabetic from last 6-7 years, which medical tests do you suggest and what will be the frequency? (Blood, Kidneys or Eyes function tests)
3. What type of excercise you recomend to control blood sugar?
4. Sometime I feel pain in my foot. Is is because of nerve damage? Are there any treatment for nerve damage?
Thank you.
Nice talking to you again. I will reply your queries one by one
1. In our body levels of C-peptide corresponds with levels of insulin. If your peptide levels are high then your insulin levels are also high. Since insulin is absent in type 1 diabetes, you are having type 2 diabetes.
In type 2 diabetes, sugars are high because of severe insulin resistance. And metformin acts at peripheral sites and improve tissue response to available insulin. Although insulin is not required now but it can be and is generally required in future because of secondary beta cell failure of pancreas.
2. Get annual eye check up to look for proliferative diabetic retinopathy.
Get your serum creatinine every 6 months to look for diabetic Nephropathy
Get your blood sugar fasting, Post Prandial and glycosylated hemoglobin (HBa1c) every three months.
3. Do aerobic exercises like brisk walking or swimming etc daily for at least 45 minutes
4. Pain in foot can be due to diabetic neuropathy. Generally diabetic individuals have dual pathology of diabetic sensory neuropathy along with varying degree of peripheral vascular occlusion. You must consult your doctor for looking for blood flow in lower legs and possibly a Doppler test to rule out any obstruction to the blood flow is entailed.
Hope this answers all your queries. Any further query is welcome.
Thanks and best of luck.
